Chances are at some point in your life you have been on some kind of a diet. With two-thirds of the population being overweight a good majority of us have looked into dieting for weight loss. As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, I teach super busy women how NOT to diet and still lose weight.
If you are like the rest of us chances are you have been on a diet that stems around deprivation and foods to avoid.
Personally when I feel like I am depriving myself, I do fairly well for a few days and then BAM..here come the cravings and the, "Stuff everything in my face," binge starts. We are human beings that appreciate comfort and food has been the center of comfort for many years.
I don't believe in deprivation, I believe in replacing unhealthy choices with better ones. At Nourish The Gift Wellness we don't believe that deprivation is a healthy approach to anything!
We believe in crowding out the not-so-good with the better and BEST options. When we fill our body with wholesome, nutrient dense foods our body gets what it needs and no longer has the intense cravings, or need to hang on to the extra weight.
A healthy way of eating that is filled with tasty, healthy meals and is one that can be sustained for a lifetime will keep you healthy for years to come.
Dieting stinks, it leaves us feeling deprived, cranky, moody and unfulfilled...Eating healthy leaves us full of energy with balanced moods and a naturally slim waist line.
This Is How We Stop Dieting and Start Living: Crowd Out The Not So Good to Make Room for the Better and Best Options.
1. Eat more vegetables.
You've heard it time and time again, "Eat your veggies." Rather than focus on what you can't have, expand your food list to include tasty new veggie dishes that are full of flavor, nutrient density and energy for your body. Experiment with vegetables that you do like. Right now Spaghetti squash, butternut squash, pumpkin are all in season. You can get them for a great price, they are better for your body and you can make incredibly tasty dishes with them. Here is a guide to what is in season now.
2. Find Healthier Alternatives to Your Favorites.
Try these Dark Chocolate Coconut Bites, they satisfy my cravings and I get to enjoy a guilt free treat. In my Faith we teach our children the phrase CTR: Choose The Right. We can apply this same way of thinking to the foods we eat. Choose the Right foods that will sustain your body's energy and health needs. Food is fuel, it can be deeply rewarding to begin eating in a way of consciousness about how food affects the way you feel. Food truly changes everything :)
3. It Doesn't Have to Be ALL-OR-NOTHING.
I am going to admit this here and now, I am a type A, all or nothing, natural born leader type of a person, some say bossy, some say driven, either way you get the point and chances are you have a lot of the same characteristics that I do. In the past when I first started trying to lose weight (I was 70 pounds heavier) I would go all in, then something would happen I would "cheat" on my diet and then get frustrated and just give up.
Please do not give up, media and corporate companies have fed you lies for years and years. There is no quick fix, easy button, shake or pill you can take that will make the weight magically fall off, in fact ask yourself how many times you have given in to the false promises. I won't sugar coat this journey, it takes time, it takes shifting your mindset if you want your weight loss to last. Too many products and weight loss info out there promise quick this, and quick that and it is kind of our own fault...no one wants to take a long time to lose the weight. However, you can get results quickly, but you still have to be working on the mindset piece and restoring the foundations of the body back into optimal levels to keep it off.
That is where I am different, that's where holistic weight loss coaching is better, in fact in my mind the best approach. If you'd like to experience for yourself what it is like to work with Jennifer schedule your 20 minute phone weight loss strategy session with her HERE ---> Click on this link
The GIFT of health is a journey. It takes time to change mindset, we learn from our mistakes when we are actively seeking to learn and change. One of the very first parts of my coaching programs are about awareness and mindset. Once you slow down enough to see how food affects your body, you are likely to not want to eat the same foods you used to because of the way you feel.
Crowding out is about choosing better, being too strict without reward on the other side is no fun, and will it really keep us going, is it sustainable? I want you to know that the reward of optimal health and finally releasing the weight that keeps us trapped, is like nothing I have ever experienced before, it is "Priceless" as they say and I want you to experience this too!
Blessings in Health and Happiness,
